A Note from DPW - To prevent flooding and ice damming, keep fallen leaves out of culverts to allow stormwater to flow freely. When leaves to back up it can cause flooding and over time can make drainage ineffective. Leaves should not be raked near waterways, streams or wetlands as this can cause excess nutrients in the water, leading to algae blooms and unwanted vegetation.
Consider raking leaves into forested areas on your property or bring them to our leaf pile at DPW. Decomposition of leaves IS the primary component in rich soil for next year.
