Public Safety advised of the start of hunting season

Public Safety has asked that we share the start of hunting season as a reminder for being aware of hunters around us in Hemlock Farms.

All 20 of Pennsylvania's state forests, which cover more than 2 million acres, and 97 of the state parks are open to hunting during seasonal hunting. Deer hunting is the most popular hunting activity on state land and helps to maintain the forests by managing the deer population and keeping the forest balanced.

As 2020 purple paint can be used rather than ‘posted’ signs on properties to alert others that lands are private, and trespassing is not permitted. Owners using purple paint must paint in vertical purple lines that are at least 8 inches long and 1 inch wide. You might have noticed these marking on Routes 739, 402, or 6 as the law is gaining popularity.

Small game and special licenses are already in effect this time of year. You may hear the sound of gunshots and start to see hunters in the surrounding woods or walking near Hemlock Farms. The sound of a gunshot travels longer distances than you might imagine. A gunshot echo will depend on the type of ammunition, the firearm used, as well as the weather and temperature. Interestingly, sound will travel faster when its colder out. Gunshots sounds can easily carry a mile away.

Dates to remember - November 26, 2022, is the start of rifle deer season through December 10, 2022. It is required to wear orange clothing regardless of if you are hunting or not if you walk on state game lands (near Maple Swamp Trail) during rifle hunting season from November 15 to December 15. This is recommended for your pets as well.
