Chess Club of Hemlock Farms The Chess Club of Hemlock Farms welcomes chess players of all levels, and those who wish to learn the game. For those who desire, free lessons and instruction are available. Meetings held weekly, each Thursday (except holidays) at 7:30 p.m. at the Conference Center. Columbia Italian-American Club The Columbia Italian-American Club, Inc. (CIAC) was founded in 1998 in Hemlock Farms as a not-for profit organization to honor and foster our Italian heritage which has a rich culture in the arts, sciences and philosophy. Our objective is to learn about our culture; to honor it; promote it; and pass it on to future generations. Our charitable mission is to be of service to our community and to help in situations where needed. Examples are a scholarship fund, donations to local service and religious groups and the identification of needy families. We seek to promote good will through good deeds. The CIAC is a socially active group and we enjoy each other's company. Our mission is to foster friendship among our members and to stimulate intellectual advancement. Occasionally we conduct programs, inviting speakers to discuss subjects of interest to enlighten our members about our rich Italian history and culture. We have fund-raising activities for charitable purposes. Our goal is to enlist others with similar interests and backgrounds to join us in contributing to the growth, understanding and appreciation of our heritage. Computer Club The Computer Club is a computer user group in Hemlock Farms. It is open to residents of Hemlock Farms who use computers. (It is not necessary to own one). The club serves a forum for open-ended discussions on computing. There is a beginners segment at the early part of the meetings. We are not a "computer course," those are available at local high schools and computer stores in the area. Our meetings start in April and end at the end of November. We meet the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Conference Center. Guests are welcome. New members with expertise in particular software are encouraged to make a presentation at the club. Country Club Country Club Drive Lords Valley Country Club is a private, member-owned club located within Hemlock Farms. The use of its facilities, which include an 18-hole Championship golf course, ten har-tru tennis courts, an Olympic size swimming pool and various dining locations, are limited to club members and their guests. Discussion Club Formerly called the Political Discussion Club, our Club invites all people interested in a free exchange of opinion on various subjects related to national or international politics, science or medicine, business or social issues. We meet once a month in the Conference Center. Look for meeting date information in the Hemlock Happenings, on Channel 15 or posted at the Mail Room bulletin board.
Fifty Plus Club The 50+ Club, founded in 1981, is open to ALL Hemlock Farms residents 50 years of age or over. Formed to develop and maintain a spirit of camaraderie and fellowship among its members. 50+ is an organized program of social, recreational, fraternal, educational, cultural and informational activities. The regularly scheduled business meetings of the Club are held on the first Tuesday of each month in the Clubhouse at 1:00 p.m. Club events are posted in Hemlock Happenings, the Hemlock News and on Channel 15. Fire and Rescue Company Auxiliary This voluntary organization is engaged in activities to raise funds for the Fire & Rescue Company. Its members meet the first Friday of each month (March through October) at the Firehouse at 10:30 a.m. New members and/or helpers are always welcome. Hemlock Farms Babe Ruth Youth Organization This is an adult organization that is dedicated to administering to the youth of the community in conjunction with the Wallenpaupack Babe Ruth League. The group performs such functions as league registration, securing sponsors, supplying equipment and uniforms, fund raising, securing permits for fields and facilities and enlisting volunteers for such positions as coaches, umpires, groundskeepers and team parents. Hemlock Farms Landscape Club Established in March 1998, the Landscape Club, a volunteer organization of Hemlock Farms residents, is dedicated to the enhancement and preservation of our community's appearance. Our projects include the design, planting and maintenance of Hemlock Farms Entrance, Administration Building, Clubhouse & the water feature, Mailroom, 9/11 Memorial, and the Public Safety Building. The Club's projects are coordinated with Management and completed with participation of our members and the Public Works Department. We include native plants, disease and deer resistant specimens in our planting choices. A portion of the monies needed to sustain our work is derived from fund raising projects including the "Gift Tree Program", plant sales and individual and corporate donations. Our "Donor Recognition Tree is on display in the Clubhouse lounge. Qualifications for membership: A desire to create, learn and work with other club members. Experience not necessary! Hemlock Farms Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company 368 Hemlock Farms Road The Hemlock Farms Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company would like to welcome you to the community. Our company provides fire, rescue and EMS protection to the community, Porter Township and part of Blooming Grove and Dingmans Townships. Our complement includes one ladder truck, one engines, two rescues, brush truck, two ambulances a rescue four-wheeler and a rescue boat. Our members are highly trained and dedicated to serving your needs in the most professional manner possible. We are a volunteer company not supported by your dues at all. Annual contributions by every property owner are crucial to our survival. Our presence represents a substantial saving on your homeowner's insurance with an ISO rating of 6 (a very good rating for a rural volunteer company). Hemlock Farms Writers Group The Hemlock Farms Writers Group meets the 2nd & 4th Monday of the month at the Orchard House. Sessions are to share a love of writing. We critique each other's works, with inspiration, support and encouragement. Genre ranges from vignettes to short stories, poetry and novels. Serious writers are always welcome. Interfaith Council The Interfaith Council of Hemlock Farms consists of representatives from each of the three organized religious groups serving Hemlock Farms, namely: The Church at Hemlock Farms, the Jewish Fellowship of Hemlock Farms and St. John Neumann-Good Shepherd Parish. It conducts programs designed to increase interfaith understanding through activities such as its annual Memorial Day and Thanksgiving Services and Holocaust Memorial Service.
Jewish Fellowship of Hemlock Farms 540 Forest Drive The Jewish Fellowship of Hemlock Farms, the only Jewish presence in Pike County, is celebrating its 39th year. It is the place where members gather to celebrate joyous occasions or offer comfort on sad occasions. The Fellowship offers various educational, cultural and social events throughout the year. The religious school offers an innovative curriculum as well as Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparations. The Fellowship participates in and hosts Community Interfaith Services and programs for Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, Yom Hashoa, 9/11 and throughout the year. The 2010 adult calendar includes lectures, book reviews, film series, concerts, Sisterhood, and Men's Club events. Friday evening services are followed by an Oneg Shabbat. Saturday morning services includes Torah study and Kiddush. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate in our House of Worship where Jewish Holidays and Festivals are observed and celebrated. Jewish Women International Jewish Women International is a vital women's organization dedicated to improving the economic and social welfare of women, children and their families throughout the world, nation and in Pike County. Our fund raising events support the Blooming grove Food Pantry, MANNA, Safe Haven, Wayne-Pike Adult Literacy Program and HF Fire and Rescue. Our national agenda focuses on ending discrimination and family abuse through education and community action. Regular meetings are held throughout the year on the third Sunday of each month at the Conference Center. Programs focus on cultural, educational, timely topics, as well as social events. We also sponsor weekly Card and Mah Jongg games Tuesday through Friday afternoons from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at the Orchard House. General meetings are open to all interested residents of Hemlock Farms. MANNA MANNA is a service group supported by organizations and individuals in Hemlock Farms. MANNA, whose services are available to ALL Hemlock Farmers, has as its goal the following: to drive incapacitated or recuperating neighbors to places of need if the emergency arises; to make friendly visits to shut-ins; and to do emergency marketing; to make telephone checks; (Medical or similar emergencies should be referred to Fire and Rescue and/or Security.) Our food pantry is available to those in EMERGENCY situations. Those wishing to take advantage of the services or those willing to offer services, are invited to leave telephone messages on the machine at The Church at Hemlock Farms 570/775-6787. Neighbor- to-Neighbor Club The Neighbor-to-Neighbor Club (N2N) welcomes all Hemlock Farms members with a sincere interest in our community's future. The Club's purpose is to communicate, educate, and exchange ideas and make suggestions relevant to Hemlock Farms. We seek to provide a forum for open two-way communication and provide an opportunity to meet your neighbors. We discuss, analyze and research issues about the welfare of our community. Scarlet Divas Red Hat Society The Red Hat Society began as a result of a few women deciding to greet middle age with verve, humor, and élan. We believe silliness is the comedy relief of life, and since we are all in it together, we might as well join red-gloved hands and go for the gusto together. Underneath the frivolity, we share a bond of affection, forged by common life experiences and a genuine enthusiasm for wherever life takes us next. St. John Neumann-Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Parish 705 Route 739 St. John Neumann is located in Lords Valley between Hemlock Farms Road and McConnell Lake. Mass Schedule is as follows: Saturday mass is at 4:00 p.m. at St. John Neumann. Sunday Mass at Good Shepherd Church is Sunday at 8:00 a.m. from Memorial Day to Columbus Day and is at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Neumann Church. Confessions are heard on Saturday from 3:00 p.m.-3:45 p.m. and by appointment. Daily mass consult the parish bulletin at St. John Neumann Church. Good Shepherd is located 400 yards from Exit 30 (old exit 8 on I-84) on Route 402.
The Church at Hemlock Farms 098 Willow Drive The Church at Hemlock Farms, on Lookout Drive, is an interdenominational Christian Church founded in 1971. It is federated with the Evangelical Covenant Church and the Reformed Church in America. Sunday Schedule: 1) Sunday School for children grades 1-6 begins at 10:00 a.m.; 2) Worship services are at 10 a.m. followed by Coffee Hour. Throughout the morning, Nursery Care is provided for infants and toddlers. For further information, please call the Church at 570/775-6787, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Special services are conducted on Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, and Christmas Eve. Interfaith services are held on Memorial Day observed and Thanksgiving Sunday. Holy Communion is administered the first Sunday of each month. Baptisms and Weddings can be scheduled by calling the Church Office. A Confirmation Class for youth and New Members Orientation Classes are conducted by the Pastor for youth and adults wishing to become members of the Church. The Pastor is available for counseling, hospital and home visits. There is an active weekday Adult Bible Class, Youth Fellowship Group, 2 Women's Circles and a Men's Club. A Vacation Bible School is conducted each summer for all children in the community. A Senior Choir provides music for the Services. Yearly special events include a Trifles and Treasures Sale on Memorial Day Saturday and Columbus Day Saturday, a Strawberry Festival in June, a Golf Outing in September, a Harvest Luncheon in November, and an Advent Dinner and Program in December. The Happy Hookers A group of Hemlock Farmers interested in handcrafts got together in January 1994 to combat "cabin fever," have been meeting all year round and growing in numbers ever since. Our purpose is to learn from each other in a relaxed fun atmosphere. "The Happy Hookers" welcome accomplished crocheters, knitters, embroiderers, etc., as well as beginners who would like to improve or learn new skills. Women's Club The Hemlock Farms Women's Club is a social and philanthropic organization which conducts fund raising gatherings and educational programs. Recipients of our philanthropic endeavors include the Library, Landscaping Club, Fire and Rescue, MANNA, Safe Haven, Food Pantry, Support Our Troops, and our Adopt-A-Child Program. The Club meets the second Saturday of each month (except for July, third Saturday) at 10:30 a.m. in the Clubhouse, April through November. We continue our winter program without general meetings.
